Salmon Filets, Gulf of Maine
Salmon Filets from the Gulf of Maine
This is fish sourced from sustainable open-ocean aquaculture off the coast of Maine and southeast Canada.
- Promptly frozen to preserve nutritional content and delicate flavor.
- Vacuum sealed in approximately 16 ounce filets.
- Timeline: harvested, packed in ice until processed on the pier, vacuum-sealed and flash frozen all in the same morning. We have it back to the Berkshires that afternoon.
Berkshire Organics advocates for regular fish consumption as a necessary component of our nutritional intake.
We believe frozen fish, when not left too long before freezing, is a tremendous value! Not unlike frozen produce, seafood can also be frozen at it's prime to maximize flavor and nutrient density. The quality, value, and shelf-life of this fish we've brought in for you is advantageous, particularly in these leaner times.
For our inland based habitat and in our current world where microplastics have impacted most aquatic life, including in shellfish living at depths so great to be devoid of light, we feel strongly that eating high quality seafood is far better than not eating it. The risk:reward significantly favors the consumption of fish.
In speaking with Dr. Mark Pettus about this, he said, "With respect to farmed fish, I believe the methodology for farming, when sustainable, is a great option for us."
The farming of seafood has numerous variations; all are not created equally. Sustainable aquaculture is the raising of fish in the open ocean water without pharmaceuticals.
