Locally Grown Macoun Apples
The skin is a dark red with a purplish flush. Its very firm flesh is juicy and snow white, tasting sweet with a hint of berry. A popular farm stand apple, developed by Canadian horticulturalist W.T. Macoun in the 1940s. Pronounced "Ma-cown," after the variety's namesake, but sometimes pronounced either "Ma-coon" or "McCowan."
These local apples were grown using Integrative Pest Management practices from Klein Kill Farm, NY
Sold by the pound, which is usually 2-3 apples.
Storage Tips: Store on the counter. Move any uneaten apples to the refrigerator after seven days.the fridge or out, don't store near most other uncovered fruits or vegetables-- the ethylene gases produced by apples can ruin them (making carrots bitter, for example). The exception: if you want to ripen plums, pears and other fruits quickly, put an apple nearby for a day or so.
